Earthquake in north Saint Lucia

On Thursday night 21st December at 9:28 and 9:30 p.m. local time, two earthquakes occurred in north Saint Lucia. The preliminary location for the event is 14.01°N 60.93°W. The events were reported as felt in north Saint Lucia. The map below shows the location of the two earthquakes.

The focal depth of the earthquakes were approximately 9 and 15 km. The preliminary magnitudes of the events are 2.8 and 3.0 respectively. On Saturday afternoon 16th December at 4:19 p.m. local time, an earthquake occurred northwest of Trinidad. The preliminary location for the event is 11.31°N 62.32°W. The event was reported as felt in Carenage, Trinidad. The map below shows the location of the earthquake..

On Sunday night 3rd December at 10:52 p.m. local time, an earthquake occurred west of Trinidad. The preliminary location for the event is 10.68°N 61.67°W. The event was reported felt in several areas of west Trinidad. The map below shows the location of the earthquake.

Earthquake northwest of Trinidad

17th November, 2006

On Friday morning 17th November at 4:33 a.m. local time, an earthquake occurred northwest of Trinidad. The preliminary location for the event is 11.37°N 62.16°W. The event was reported as felt in Trinidad. There have been no reports of damage or injuries thus far. The map below shows the location of the earthquake. This event is not related to the 15/11/06 earthquake.

Earthquake west of Trinidad

15th November, 2006

On Wednesday afternoon 15th November at 4:26 p.m. local time, an earthquake occurred about 100km west of Port of Spain, Trinidad. The preliminary location for the event is 10.76°N 62.54°W. The event was reported as felt in San Fernando, San Juan, Diego Martin and St. Augustine, Trinidad as well as Scarborough in Tobago. There have been no reports of damage or injuries thus far. 29/09/06 - Earthquake near Trinidad's north coast

Earthquake near Trinidad's north coast

3rd October, 2006

1:00pm

On Friday morning 29th September at 9:08 a.m. local time, an earthquake occurred on land Trinidad near Churapa Bay on the north coast. This event was of magnitude 5.8, was located at 10.83°N 61.41°W and had a focal depth of 40km. The earthquake was reported as strongly felt throughout Trinidad and Tobago and was also felt less strongly in various regions of Venezuela, Guyana, Grenada, St. Vincent and St. Lucia.

Since the main shock on 29/09/06, there have been at least 46 aftershocks, the strongest being at 2:23pm on 29/09/06. This aftershock was of magnitude 5.3, was located at 10.83°N 61.43°W, and had a focal depth of 32km. The aftershock was reported as felt in Trinidad, Tobago, Grenada and St. Vincent. A second felt aftershock was recorded on 30/09/06 at 3:24p.m. Felt reports were received from Tunapuna in Trinidad for this magnitude 3.4 earthquake.

08/08/06 - Earthquake south-east of Martinique

Earthquake south-east of Martinique

8th August, 2006

On Tuesday evening 8th August at 7:55 p.m. local time, an earthquake occurred approximately 15km south-east of Martinique. The preliminary location for the event is 14.40°N 60.75°W. The event was reported as felt in Gros Islet Town, Morne Fortune, Entrepot, Monier, Soufriere, Gardet (Dennery) in St. Lucia. One report was also received from Portsmouth, Dominica.

Earthquakes north of Dominica

20th June, 2006

On Tuesday evening 20th June at 10:17 p.m. local time, an earthquake occurred north of Dominica. The preliminary location for the event is 15.72°N 61.39°W. On Wednesday morning 21st June at 8:34a.m. a second earthquake occurred close to the same area. These events were felt in Portsmouth, Dominica.

Instruments at the Seismic Research Unit recorded 12 earthquakes between 10:17p.m. on June 20th and 10:00a.m. on June 21st. The 10:17p.m. event (magnitude 4.1) and the 8:34a.m. event (magnitude 3.7) were the only events that were reported as felt. These earthquakes are aftershocks from the November 21, 2004 Les Saintes Earthquake (magnitude 6.0). This is not unusual after an extended period and it is even possible for an aftershock greater than magnitude 5.0 to occur. These earthquakes are not related to volcanic activity in Dominica.

On Thursday evening 15th June at 5:34 p.m. local time, an earthquake occurred west of Trinidad about 50km west of Port of Spain. The preliminary location for the event is 10.69°N 61.93°W. The event was reported felt in Carenage, St. James, and Port of Spain.

On Tuesday, June 13th an earthquake occurred at 8:25am local time, northwest of Trinidad. The preliminary location for the event is 10.91°N 62.10°W. This event was reported as felt in Port of Spain, Maraval, Cocorite, Diego Martin and St. Joseph. The map below shows the location of the earthquake.
